INFORMATION & ANALYSIS

Agribusiness Services

Hawai'i Island

Welcome to the Value Chain Data Review Tool for Hawai'i Island's
Agribusiness Services

In preparation for our upcoming workshop on October 15th, this tool is designed to guide you through key information about the value chain for the provision of business, technical and agricultural services to producers on Hawai'i Island. The information provided here will ensure that your interventions build upon the insights gained from earlier analyses and align with the current realities of the value chain.

Please follow these steps to review the necessary information:

  1. Review Producer Information: Even though this value chain is focused on service providers, our analysis still starts with the producers because it is to their benefit that we seek improved and expanded access to these services. This section provides an overview of which producers we are focused on and what are their key challenges associated with the services they need.

  2. Review Service Details: Next, explore the range of business, technical and agricultural services available to producers on Hawai'i Island. This will help you understand the range and diversity of services producers are currently using.

  3. Review the value chain's Core System Functions: Here, you will find a summary of the overall market system for these services, including support functions. The system map offers an easy-to-navigate visual guide to dive deeper into specific components of the market system.

  4. Review Decline Data: Review the decline of agriculture support services and supplies in terms of establishments and employment over the past decade to understand the challenges facing both producers and service providers.

  5. Review Ongoing Projects and Collaborations: Discover the projects, initiatives, and collaborations already underway or in development to address the key challenges associated with agribusiness service delivery on the island. This section will show you the existing efforts you can build on.

  6. Review Key Constraints: This section lists the key challenges and root causes hindering the growth of these services, along with potential opportunities for systemic change. At the bottom of the page, you will find a link to a ranking tool—please use this to prioritize the root causes you believe are most critical to address.

Additional Notes:

  • You can scroll through the information and tabbed sections on each page. At the bottom of each page is a link to the next step in the review process. You can click on any of the numbered steps at the top of the page to review or revisit information.

  • The information is summarized to facilitate a quick review. For those interested in a more in-depth analysis, click on the relevant sections to access detailed data.

  • This tool will remain available after the workshop as a shared repository of value chain data, so you may revisit any time.

  • If you are only interested in specific components of the value chain, use the system map in Step 3 for direct access to detailed pages on various elements.

Workshop Participation:

On October 15th, during the workshop, you will review and discuss the prioritized root causes and develop at least one planned intervention for system change to address that problem.

These plans will serve as a foundation for future development efforts in the value chain.

Thank you for your engagement and contributions toward the growth and sustainability of Hawai'i Island’s agribusiness services value chain.
