Brushbox

Brushbox (Lophostemon confertus), native to Australia, has been introduced to certain parts of Hawaiʻi Island. Though not as widespread as other species, it’s sometimes planted as a street or ornamental shade tree.

Brushbox

Brushbox wood is dense and can be used for flooring, cabinetry, or decorative millwork if harvested. On Hawaiʻi Island, however, its use in commercial forestry is limited. Small-scale harvests may occur when older trees are removed from ornamental plantings. Due to limited availability and lack of large stands, there isn’t a major market for Brushbox lumber locally, and any utilization is generally opportunistic rather than organized.
