Cinnamon Camphora

Cinnamon Camphora (Cinnamomum camphora), also known as Camphor tree, is occasionally found in wetter upland areas or as an ornamental yard specimen. It features aromatic leaves and wood, with some individuals established on Hawaiʻi Island.

The wood has a distinctive camphor scent and can be carved or turned for specialty crafts. Commercial harvesting is rare on Hawaiʻi Island, primarily because plantings are scattered and not managed as a timber resource. When available, camphor wood may be milled for unique decorative pieces (like bowls or boxes) that highlight the aromatic qualities. In general, however, Cinnamon Camphora is not a major contributor to the island’s forestry market, being mostly an ornamental or incidental tree.
