Kamani

Kamani (Calophyllum inophyllum) is a coastal tree, valued for its broad leaves and beautiful form. It is present on Hawaiʻi Island in ornamental plantings, often near beaches or lowland landscapes.

Kamani

Kamani wood is relatively hard and can be polished to a fine finish, making it suitable for furniture, carving, or small craft items. However, large-scale commercial harvest is limited as most trees are scattered in public or ornamental areas. Historically, Polynesians used Kamani for canoe parts and implements, but modern use remains primarily decorative. Despite its attractive figure, consistent commercial logging does not occur, and any Kamani lumber typically comes from occasional removal or salvage operations, then sold to artisans.
