Queensland maple

Queensland maple (Flindersia brayleyana) is native to Australia, introduced to Hawaiʻi Island in ornamental or reforestation plantings. It is not widespread but does appear in certain arboretums and forest lots.

The wood is prized in its native range for fine furniture and musical instruments, known for its attractive figure and workable grain. On Hawaiʻi Island, only small stands or individual trees exist, limiting any significant commercial harvest. When logs become available, local woodworkers may value them highly for custom craft projects. Overall, Queensland maple remains an uncommon species, more frequently admired in demonstration forests or private collections than used in large-scale lumber production.
