In preparation for our upcoming workshop on September 25th, this tool is designed to guide you through key information about the value chain for staple food commodities on Hawai'i Island. The information provided here will ensure that your interventions build upon the insights gained from earlier analyses and align with the current realities of the value chain.

1. Review Producer Information: Begin by exploring the challenges faced by staple food commodities producers. This section provides an overview of the key barriers and constraints that affect production across the island.

2. Review Commodity Details: Next, explore the range of staple food commodities produced within the value chain on Hawai'i Island. This will help you understand the diversity of production and the critical areas of focus.

3. Review the value chain's System Functions and Rules: Here, you will find a summary of the overall value chain, including support functions, rules, and key stakeholders. The system map offers an easy-to-navigate visual guide to dive deeper into specific components of the market system.

4. Review Distribution Maps: Maps displaying the distribution of establishments and jobs across the core functions of the value chain by district are provided. Use these to understand the spatial organization of the value chain on the island.

5. Review Ongoing Projects and Collaborations: Discover the projects, initiatives, and collaborations already underway or in development to address the key challenges within the value chain. This section will show you the existing efforts you can build on.

6. Review Key Constraints: This section lists the key challenges and root causes hindering the growth of the value chain, along with potential opportunities for systemic change. At the bottom of the page, you will find a ranking tool—please use this to prioritize the root causes you believe are most critical to address.

Workshop Participation:

• On September 25th, during the workshop, you will receive a link to a separate tool designed for developing planned interventions based on the pre-workshop prioritization.

• Teams will work on addressing the two highest priority root causes identified in this pre-workshop phase.

 

These plans will serve as a foundation for future development efforts in the value chain.
